Future of corn mill hangs in the balance as discussions begin

Discussions are taking place with the aim of securing the 'long-term future' of the Warwick Bridge Corn Mill weeks after its business was suspended.

The 'detailed' discussions are currently taking place between the Cultura Trust and Warwick Bridge Corn Mill Ltd. regarding the potential transfer of the mill's freehold.

This comes a matter of weeks after the corn mill announced that it had suspended its business on Tuesday, February 4 following concerns from the mill's landlords Cultura about the 'long-term viability of the business'.

However, the new joint statement from Warwick Bridge Corn Mill Ltd. and the Cultura Trust shed light on a potential resolution that could see the mill reopen as a 'viable operation'

They said: "Discussions between Cultura Trust and Warwick Bridge Corn Mill Ltd since the actions on February 4 have resulted in a proposal to transfer the freehold for the mill to Warwick Bridge Corn Mill Ltd.

"The focus is to secure the long-term future of the mill as a viable operation.

"For this to happen, The National Lottery Fund also needs to be involved due to the public funding which was secured by Cultura Trust for the purchase and refurbishment of the mill.

"Detailed discussions have been started with this aim.

"Legal and financial considerations mean that the process will be challenging to achieve an early conclusion.

"We are all committed to demonstrating that this is the best way forward to secure the mill as a secure public asset."

The discussions also follow Cultura's decision to foreclose Warwick Bridge Corn Mill Ltd's lease and prevent access to the mill on February 4.

Writing on social media, they said: "For some months now we have been in discussion with our landlords Cultura regarding the long-term viability of the business.

"Unfortunately, they have taken the decision to foreclose our lease with no notice, preventing our access to the building and giving us no choice but to suspend the business."
